What Makes a Dental Implant Successful?

Posted on 7/10/2023 by Young Jun DDS MD FACS
What Makes a Dental Implant Successful?Dental implant procedures have a high success rate of up to 97%. More so, they offer an attractive and comfortable solution for those who have lost a tooth due to decay or injury, providing an option that looks and feels like a natural tooth.

Like any surgical procedure, treatment with dental implants may cause slight discomfort or pain during the first few days. However, there should be no problem, movement, or pain after recovery from surgery. Why is the Procedure Successful?

Implant Surgery

Surgery to place a dental implant is performed under local anesthesia or conscious sedation precisely to avoid discomfort and pain and to be monitored by an anesthesiologist. The specialist who performs the surgery will previously evaluate your health conditions to define the most convenient option.

The Recovery Process

Normal discomfort may be felt, such as inflammation and pain that the patient can control with medication, as in any surgery. To prevent these discomforts, the specialist will give the essential patient instructions to maintain their diet and habits.

He will also prescribe, according to his criteria, the antibiotics and painkillers that are needed. It is essential to follow the recommendations so that this recovery time and the healing process are successful. If not, the individual may generate a loss of the dental implant.

Completed Implant Treatment

After the process of recovery and healing of the dental implants, the dentist places the crowns, and there should be no discomfort, pain, or movement of the implant. The patient should be able to eat, talk and smile without any inconvenience.

Generally, treatment with dental implants is not a problem. It is possible that while the patient gets used to having the implant, they feel something strange in their mouth; thus, they will need to request a specialist review to identify what may be causing problems in time.
