Maxillofacial Procedures List

Posted on 4/24/2023 by Young Jun DDS MD FACS
Maxillofacial Procedures ListOral and maxillofacial surgery involves treatment for complicated dental issues and illnesses affecting the mouth, jaws, teeth, and face. It focuses more on facial trauma surgery, facial reconstructive operation, and other dental processes that touch the jawbone, such as dental implants and wisdom teeth extractions. The therapeutic and diagnostic procedures include:

Mandibular Joint Surgery

Mandibular Joint Surgery is used to realign or repair the jaw. This helps to treat burning mouth syndrome, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease, or masticatory musculoskeletal pain.

Radiofrequency Needle Ablation

Radiofrequency Needle Ablation is a non-invasive treatment. This treatment employs high-frequency radio waves to cut the nerve connections that cause migraines, trigeminal neuralgia, and other chronic pain conditions.

Maxillomandibular Osteotomy

Maxillomandibular Osteotomy is a procedure where the lower and upper jaws are surgically realigned. This helps to enhance breathing and address obstructive sleep apnea.

Tumor Resection

Tumor Resection is the process that involves surgically removing unwanted tumors and growths, both cancerous and benign. This helps to limit severe diseases.

Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic surgery is also referred to as corrective jaw surgery, and it is used to correct a misaligned jaw or crooked bite. This procedure is typically done in collaboration with orthodontic treatment. Corrective jaw surgery may also be helpful for people who have congenital birth abnormalities like cleft lip and palate.

Pre-prosthetic Bone Grafting

This is a surgical insertion of patient-derived autologous bone to support implants or implanted hearing equipment such as cochlear implants. The procedure helps to restore function and shape by facilitating missing teeth replacements.

Craniofacial Surgery

Craniofacial surgery helps to treat traumatic fractures, including cheekbone fractures, jaw fractures, nasal fractures, and eye socket fractures. It also corrects congenital deformities such as craniosynostosis and cleft palate.

Lip Reconstructive Surgery

After the lips' skin cancer removal, the procedure is used to repair and restore the lips' appearance and function. This helps to give you the look and feel of your lips back.
