Advantages And Disadvantages Of Removing All Four Wisdom Teeth At Once

Posted on 4/10/2023 by Young Jun DDS MD FACS
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Removing All Four Wisdom Teeth At OnceWisdom teeth have been designed to help your back teeth do all of the work when it comes to chewing and grinding your food. However, the rest of your molars do such a good job; your wisdom teeth really aren't necessary. If they aren't bothering you, and they aren't crowding out your other molars, your wisdom teeth can remain in your jaw.

If your wisdom teeth are causing you pain and headaches, it may be time for you to have your wisdom teeth out. Some people have two surgeries to have all four wisdom teeth removed, while other people have all four wisdom teeth removed at once. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of having all four wisdom teeth removed at one time.

Advantages in Removing All Four Wisdom Teeth at Once

One of the most important reasons to have all of your wisdom teeth out at once is cost. It will cost you far less money to have two surgeries rather than one. Also, because of the aftercare and discomfort wisdom teeth removal brings, you may only want to go through the aftereffects of surgery once. Many people have problems with anesthesia, so if you are one of those people, you may want to have all of your teeth out at once. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, which means they are not erupting through the gums, you may be experiencing pain and headaches. These will go away once your wisdom teeth are removed.

Disadvantages of Removing All Four Wisdom Teeth at Once

Depending on the patient, there can be disadvantages to removing all four wisdom teeth at once. If you do not tolerate discomfort from surgery well, you may want to have separate surgeries to minimize pain. Also, you may experience more swelling if you have all of your wisdom teeth out at one time.

If you aren't sure which surgical method is right for you, why not consult with a dentist? They can help you decide which surgery will be right for you.
