Foods To Eat To Promote Dental Health

Posted on 3/20/2023 by Young Jun DDS MD FACS
Foods To Eat To Promote Dental HealthThe American Dental Association claims that eating healthy helps keep your teeth and gums clean. Also, healthy teeth increase one's appetite for food intake. Along with the regular dental care you do at home, this is your best natural defense against tooth decay and gum disease. About 20 minutes after eating sweet or starchy foods, your saliva provides the acids and enzymes necessary for digestion.

Fluoridated foods.

The teeth benefit from consuming fluoridated water and using products made with fluoridated water. This includes dehydrated soups and powdered juices (as long as they do not include much sugar). Fluoride can also be found in powder form in foods like chicken, seafood, and cereals made for sale.

Dairy products

Another saliva producer is cheese; they increase saliva production, flushing away bacteria in the mouth. Milk, cheese, and other dairy products have calcium and phosphate that help replace minerals lost in your teeth. They also help the tooth enamel grow back.

Black and green teas

Both of these teas contain polyphenols, which kill bacteria that cause plaque. These chemicals either kill bacteria or inhibit their growth cycles. This hinders bacteria from growing and making acid that erodes your teeth.

Leafy greens

Greens are excellent prebiotics that nourishes healthy oral microorganisms in the mouth. In contrast to diets high in carbohydrates, leafy greens increase the amount of nitrite-reducing bacteria in the mouth. Consequently, a rise in nitric oxide benefits the mouth and cardiovascular system. In addition to leaving your teeth feeling cleaner, leafy vegetables promote a better oral flora. Darker leafy greens are mostly preferred for teeth as they are rich in minerals that are absorbed during remineralization, hence strengthening their structure.
