CAD/CAM

CAD/CAM machineIf you know anything about manufacturing, you have probably heard the acronym CAD/CAM. In case you have not, it stands for computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. You might not think that a manufacturing term would have anything to do with dentistry, but you would be wrong. After all, here at Placentia Oral Surgery, we are in the business of manufacturing beautiful smiles.

How CAD/CAM Is Used in Dentistry

When it comes to CAD/CAM, there are many uses in dentistry. These are things that will make it easier for you to receive a beautiful smile.

There are several different things that CAD/CAM will help us with. Many of these things would in the past have required for you to make another appointment with our office.

One of the main things that CAD/CAM can be used for is creating dentures. In the days gone by, it used to be that a patient would receive a set of temporary dentures the day that the remaining teeth were extracted. Then the patient would need to return to our office weeks later, once the new dentures were ready. This meant weeks of eating and talking with dentures that were not comfortable, and that did not fit properly. With CAD/CAM, we can make the new dentures the same day that your remaining teeth are extracted. This means that you will go home with your new dentures. They will have been made specifically for your mouth so that they will fit properly. They will be comfortable, and they will look great.

Another place where CAD/CAM comes in handy is it you need to receive a crown on top of your tooth. In the past, you would need to receive a temporary crown, and you would return to our office when the new crown was ready. This meant two trips to our office and two appointments. With CAD/CAM, we can give you the crown the same day. CAD/CAM can also be helpful if you are receiving veneers.

CAD/CAM Saves Time

One of the nicest things about CAD/CAM is the amount of time that it will save. Since many procedures that used to take two different office visits can now be handled in one day, you will not need to return to our office. That will save you time, and it will also mean that we can treat more people.

We are also sure that you will be happy to receive your permanent dentures or crown on the same day. You will not have to spend weeks with something in your mouth that does not fit quite right. You will instead be able to show off your new smile right away.

If you have been putting off a dental procedure because of time, you need to contact us here at Placentia Oral Surgery. CAD/CAM could speed up the process, and give you a new smile and a new way to eat faster than before. Call us at (657) 216-1617 for more information. We would be happy to talk to you about CAD/CAM and all the ways that it could change your life for the better.
