What You Need To Know About Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction will vary by patient. Some people will need much more work than others which means the healing process will vary between patients.

Here are some of the things that could be included in the treatment process:

Dental Exam

We will start by examining your teeth and your gums. We will look for signs of decay, and also see how healthy your gums are.

Gum Grafting

If your gums are not healthy, we might suggest a gum graft.

This is where we will take tissue from another part of your mouth, and then apply that to the part of your gums that need the extra tissue.

Bite Alignment

We will also want to check your jaw and your temporomandibular joints.

We will check your bite, to see if the alignment is off. A bite issue could be corrected with a dental appliance, or we might even suggest surgery.

Dental Implants

If we plan to replace teeth using dental implants, we will also need to check to see how much bone you have in your jaw.

If there is not enough bone, the implant will not take.

Bone Grafting

Just because there is not enough bone does not mean that we will not be able to give you dental implants. We will first need to replace the bone that is missing with a bone graft.

After that has healed, we can proceed with the implant procedure.

When checking your teeth, there are many different things that we will look at.

We might decide to keep most of your teeth and fix them with caps, for other people, it could be that we recommend that all the teeth be extracted and then replaced. It could also be a combination of these things.

A Dental Experience

One thing that you will need to remember when it comes to a full mouth reconstruction is that it will take time. A process such as a bone graft can take weeks.

If you need a full mouth reconstruction, expect it to take at least a year from start to finish.

It could take even longer than that, especially if braces or a similar appliance is needed. Just remember that it will be worth it in the long run.
